A year or two after cre­at­ing Amper­Art (fea­tur­ing “the amper­sand as fun & func­tion­al art), I dis­cov­ered a very inter­est­ing & enter­tain­ing web­site, Nation​al​Day​Cal​en​dar​.com, which gave me the idea to “acknowl­edge & applaud the amper­sand” with its own spe­cial day. I designed the offi­cial logo, above, & des­ig­nat­ed Sep­tem­ber 8 as Nation­al Amper­sand Day each & every year.

Why September 8?

I chose this date for its par­tic­u­lar com­bi­na­tion of let­ters and numer­al. It was appar­ent sev­er­al of the char­ac­ters in “Sep­tem­ber 8” can be clev­er­ly dis­guised as amper­sands when cer­tain fonts are used, like this:

As a typog­ra­ph­er, cre­at­ing the date with amper­sands was a fun chal­lenge. For you typophiles, here are the fonts used:
